The Italian mezzo-soprano Cristina Sogmaister began her studies with Maestro P. Ferraris. After winning the Spoleto’s International Competition she went on to refine her singing skills with Magda Olivero and maestro Alberto Zedda. In 1995 she won the “Progetto Giovani” competition by the Puccini Festival and performed the role of Zia Principessa in Suor Angelica. At the “Amici del Loggione” of Teatro alla Scala she sang Orfeo ed Euridice (Orfeo) in Pisa, Mantova and Ravenna. She has subsequently appeared in the most important theatres in Italy and Europe.
At Teatro alla Scala in Milan she worked with R. Muti and made her Rossini’s first important debut in Parma, at the Teatro Regio, singing Isabella in Italiana in Algeri with M° D. Callegari. She appeared as Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Angelina in La Cenerentola (Rossini), Adalgisa in Norma (Bellini), Zerlina in Don Giovanni (Mozart), Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte in the famous staging of G. Strehler, Elisabetta in Maria Stuarda (Donizetti), Arsace in Semiramide (Rossini), Siebel in Faust (Gounod), Romeo in Bellini’s Capuleti e Montecchi and La principessa in Adriana Lecouvreur (Cilea).
She gave performances in Genova at Teatro Carlo Felice, Teatro Regio in Parma, in Napoli at Teatro S. Carlo, at Oper Bonn, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Teatro La Fenice in Venezia, Montreux’s Festival, Opernhaus in Zurich, in San Paolo Brazil and at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia Roma. She worked regularly with F. Biondi and Europa Galante orchestra, M. Minkovski and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, M. Viotti and M. Pletnev.
Most recently, she sang Gianni Schicchi (Zita) and Suzy in La Rondine by Puccini; Rosina of Barbiere di Siviglia at Bellinzona Festival and Maddalena in Rigoletto by Verdi in Tuscany tour, Komornà (The Makropulos Case) in Florence (Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino) under the baton of Zubin Mehta and directed by William Friedkin, La Gran Sacerdotessa in Aida with M°. Armiliato at Arena di Verona, Gloria by Vivaldi and Petite Messe Solennelle with Orchestra Mitteleuropea of Udine and recitals in Brussels for the Organization of Arena di Verona.
She further made a highly acclaimed debut as Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro by Mozart at the theatres of Belluno and Chiavari, and she has taught the young singers at the “Cantiere lirico” in Goldoni Theatre in Livorno for the realization of “Cosi’ fan tutte”.
At the theatres of Rovigo and Venice she performed Orsola in “Il Campiello” by E. Wolf-Ferrari, recorded live by Bongiovanni, and she returning to the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino to sing Pulcinella by Stravinsky (with M. Manacorda).
Her concert repertory includes Messa da Requiem (Verdi), Stabat Mater (Rossini), 2nd Symphony (Mahler), Nisi Dominus (Vivaldi), Messiah (Haendel), Salve Regina (Pergolesi), Magnificat and Christmas Oratorio (J.S. Bach), 9th Symphony (Beethoven) and Requiem (Mozart).
