The tenor Junbum Lee was born in 1987 in South Korea. Following the completion of his undergraduate studies at Chugye University of the Arts in Seoul, he obtained his master’s degree in opera singing under Prof. Anton Scharinger at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He also attended masterclasses with Piotr Beczala and Leo Nucci. Since September 2018 he has been a member of the opera studio at Theater Freiburg.

In 2016 he was awarded 1st prize at the International Opera Singers Competition “Grandi Voci” in Austria, one year after receiving 2nd prize at the “Concursul International de Canto Elena Teodorini 2015” in Romania, and 3rd prize at the Austrian “Competizione dell’ Opera” in 2014. He also won 3rd prize at the 40th International Maria Callas Grand Prix Competition in Athens.

Junbum Lee has performed Cavaliere di Belfiore in Verdi’s “Un giorno di regno”, Don Luigino in “Il viaggio a Reims”, Bardolfo in “Falstaff”, Luigi in “Il Tabarro”, Roberto in “Maria Stuarda”, dr. Blind in “The Bat”, Monsieur Triquet in “Eugene Onegin” and Basilio in “Le Nozze di Figaro”. The Asia Youth Orchestra has invited him as soloist tenor for Beethoven’s 9th Symphony for their 25th anniversary tour through Asia as well as 7 further countries.
