The young South Korean tenor Jongwoo Kim successfully completed his bachelor’s degree in singing at Yonsei University in 2019. Since then, he has been studying for a master’s degree at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Weimar with Prof. Siegfried Gohritz.

Jongwoo Kim has successfully participated in national and international competitions already during his student days. In 2012 he won three prizes in Seoul, including 1st prize at the “Shinhye Music Competition”, the Special Award Excellent Performance at the “National Student Music Competition”, and 2nd prize at the “International Music Arts Association Music Competition”. In 2018 he also secured 1st prize at the 37th “The Music Association of Korea Competition”.

In 2019 he also took part in the New Voices in Gütersloh and the Practical Training Course of Opera Classes at the Hanover State Opera.

In July 2022 Jongwoo Kim performed Don Jose at the 2022 Ettlingen Castle Festival production of “Carmen”. In the summer of 2023 he sang Faust in Berlioz’s “La damnation de Faust” at the Domstufe Festival in Erfurt. In October/November 2023 he will perform Rodolfo in “La Boheme” at Theater Hagen as well as Alfred in “Die Fledermaus” at Hallesaal in Weimar.
