Vladimir Ghiaurov, son of the celebrated bass Nicolai Ghiaurov, was born in Sofia Bulgaria. He began his musical training as a pianist at the Conservatorio “Giuseppe Verdi” in Milan, Italy and continued his education in Austria at the Vienna Musik-Academie, where he studied conducting and composition. In Vienna he worked with Maestro Karl Österreicher, who considered him the most talented student he has ever had.  Later on in Siena he worked with Maestro Franco Ferrara.

Mr. Ghiaurov made his conducting debut in Italy in 1980. Since then he has been invited by Opera Houses and Orchestras in France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Norway, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Russia, Switzerland, Japan and Taiwan. He was a guest conductor at the Vienna State Opera, Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre, Berlin’s Konzerthaus, Tokyo’s Suntory Hall. For almost ten years he served as a principal conductor of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Plovdiv, Bulgaria. For three consecutive years (2003, 2004, 2005) he has been opening the season of Sofia National Opera, with Don Carlos, Macbeth and Otello. In 2005 he appeared with Rigoletto at the Opera Ireland in Dublin. In 2007 he conducted Il barbiere di Siviglia in Prague and Salzburg and in 2008 La fanciulla del West in Sofia.

His successful performances have been received with enormous enthusiasm by the international press and the audiences world-wide. He has collaborated with many prominent artists such as: Jörg Demus, Aldo Ciccolini, Viktor Tretiakov, Juri Boukoff, Mirella Freni, Anna Tomowa-Sintow, Ghena Dimitrova, Giorgio Zancanaro, Nicolai Ghiaurov, Ruggero Raimondi, Carlo Colombara.

Mr. Ghiaurov has recorded for the Bulgarian Radio and Television and a number of CD’s has been released by Laser light, Gega New and Capriccio labels. Currently he is in preparation of two new CD recordings.
