The Austrian baritone Thomas Weinhappel, a former member of the legendary Vienna Boys’ Choir, began his international career shortly after graduating with honors as a Master of Arts from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Following his studies, he quickly established himself on stages in Prague, Ostrava, and at the Klosterneuburg Opera Festival. In 2017, his portrayal of the title role in Thomas’s Hamlet was honored with both the Thalia Award and the Libusa Award.

With his refined vocal technique, captivating timbre, and elegant stage presence, Thomas Weinhappel is ideally suited for the “Kavaliersfach,” excelling in roles such as Escamillo, Don Giovanni, Count Almaviva, Wolfram, Onegin, Eisenstein, and Count Danilo. Recently, he has successfully expanded his repertoire into more dramatic territory, taking on roles such as Mandryka, Telramund, Kaspar, and Scarpia. His recent acclaimed guest appearances include Telramund at the Sofia National Opera, Kaspar at the Eutin Festival, and Danilo in The Merry Widow at the National Opera in Beijing.

His upcoming projects include a revival of The Merry Widow, a new production of Schreker’s Das Spielwerk und die Prinzessin at the Halle Opera House, and his highly anticipated role debut as Macbeth at the Opernfestspiele Heidenheim.
