Born in Munich into a family of musicians and singers, Anthony Sintow-Behrens began piano lessons at the age of five with the Hungarian-German pianist Andreas Reith. In 2020, following a First Prize at the national competition "Jugend musiziert", he entered the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich studying with Prof. Silke Avenhaus. He completed his Bachelor’s degree with honors in the summer of 2024 and is currently pursuing his Master’s degree under Prof. Markus Bellheim.
His musical development has been influenced by masterclasses at the Mozarteum Salzburg, the Talent Summer Course in Brescia, Italy, and the Music Academy in Pescara. Furthermore, he has gained valuable artistic insight through private lessons with renowned masters such as Marc-André Hamelin, Grigory Sokolov, Daniel Barenboim, and Janina Fialkowska. He further specialized in Lied interpretation through the instruction of Tobias Truniger, musical director of the Bavarian State Opera’s Opera Studio, and the distinguished Lied specialist Gerold Huber.
Characterized by “not only a fabulous technique, but also a depth of expression that is seldom encountered. His touch is distinctive - crystal-clear, yet consistently cantabile, even during the most virtuosic passages of a composition.” Anthony Sintow-Behrens performs regularly in a wide range of settings. His versatile concert activity includes solo recitals, chamber music, and orchestral appearances, as well as dedicated work as a collaborator for Lied recitals. His broad repertoire spans from the 18th to the 21st century.
He celebrated his orchestral debut in autumn of 2023 playing Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals at the Künstlerhaus Munich. In July 2024, he performed Haydn’s Piano Concerto No. 11 with the Junge Philharmonische Orchester München under Artem Lohninov, followed by a Lied recital featuring works by Schumann and Strauss with soprano Elisabeth Freyhoff. He made his debut in Spain in September 2025, performing chamber music at the festival in Vigo. A recent milestone were his celebrated performances of Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto with the Baden-Baden Philharmonic under the baton of Carlos Dominguez-Nieto in Baden-Baden and Munich in November 2025. In 2026 he won a Gold Medal at the Vienna International Music Competition. Since 2023, Anthony Sintow-Behrens has been a scholar of the German Academic Scholarship Foundation (Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes).
