Born 1984 in Krasnodar, Russia, Bagdasar Khachikyan began his musical studies with Galina Velmiseva, first as a baritone and from 2005 on as a countertenor. Following his studies with Ivan Myakishev and Yuriy Drozhnyak he became the Conservatory’s first countertenor graduate. He subsequently refined his vocal skills at the Trossingen University of Music in Germany under the guidance of Alexandra Coku.

In 2006 Bagdasar Khachikyan made his Moscow debut singing the alto part in Mozart’s Requiem at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall with Vladimir Ponkin conducting the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra. Having performed in various concert halls in Krasnodar he began touring through Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Luxembourg as a soprano soloist of the Don Cossack Choir Serge Jaroff. He further gave concerts at the Orchestrion Concert Hall in Moscow with the Moscow Oratorio Society Choir and Musica Viva Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Alexander Tsalyuk.

His remarkable vocal range allows him to interpret both alto and soprano parts brilliantly. As such, he performs roles such as Akhnaten by Philip Glass, Oberon in Britten’s A Midsummer night’s dream, Cesare and Sesto in Haendel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto, Tamerlano by Haendel, Nerone as well as Ottone in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea by Monteverdi, Cherubino in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, and prince Orlofsky in Johann Strauss’ Die Fledermaus.

His concert and oratorio repertory includes Mozart’s Requiem and the “Exultate, jubilate”, as well as Bach’s Magnificat and St. Matthew’s Passion. Bagdasar Khachikyan further performs arias by R. Broschi (Son qual nave), Donizetti, Glinka, Gluck, Lully, Meyerbeer, Mozart, Porpora, Rimsky-Korsakov, Rossini, A. Scarlatti, Stravinsky, Verdi (Un ballo in maschera), L. Vinci, Vivaldi, as well as by Haendel: Sta nell’ircana (Alcina), Scherza infida, Dopo notte (Ariodante), Empio diro tu sei, Va tacito e nascosto, L’angue offeso (Giulio Cesare in Egitto), Cara sposa, Venti turbine (Rinaldo), Orlando and Tamerlano.
