Regarded one of the most fascinating and versatile violinists of her generation, Lidia Baich’s intense musical interpretations have been spellbinding audiences worldwide.

Celebrated by audiences and the press for her performances that “could not be more floating, elegant, virtuosic and masterful”, Lidia Baich is widely considered to be one of the most fascinating and versatile artists of the young generation.

Born in St. Petersburg and a citizen of Austria, Ms. Baich received violin lessons from her grandfather at the age of 4. She went on to study with Prof. Boris Kuschnir in Vienna and won her first international competition at the age of 8. Numerous first prizes followed and in 1998, aged 16, she was awarded first prize at the Grand Prix d‘Eurovision and named “European Musician of the year”.

A sought-after recitalist and soloist on the world’s leading concert stages, Ms. Baich has performed with renowned conductors such as Lorin Maazel, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Yuri Temirkanov, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Kristjan Järvi, Bertrand de Billy and Yakov Kreizberg. She has toured through Japan, China, Russia, Korea, South Africa, Argentina, Brazil, USA and Europe, and appeared as soloist with orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Tokyo Philharmonic, NHK Orchestra, Berlin Symphony Orchestra, Bavarian Radio Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, Orchestra Arturo Toscanini or the Camerata Salzburg. She also took part in the ten-year anniversary of „Pavarotti and Friends” in Modena, Italy.

A passionate chamber musician, she has appeared at the Salzburg Festival, Vienna Festival, Dubrovnik Festival, Moritzburg Festival, as well as Johannesburg’s Mozart Festival and performed with members of the Vienna Philharmonic, the Vienna Brahms Trio, Nobuko Imai, Aleksey Igudesman, Hyung-Ki Joo, Boris Giltburg, Matthias Fletzberger, and many others.

Her most recent recordings released on Deutsche Grammophon/Universal include violin concertos by Mendelssohn and Prokofiev with Bertrand de Billy and the Vienna RSO, as well as a CD/DVD titled “Violin in Motion” with pianist Matthias Fletzberger in their own arrangements of symphonic ballet-music. Mr. Fletzberger has also accompanied Ms. Baich on a recording featuring romantic works by Richard Strauss and Joseph Marx.

Ms. Baich recently presented her novel concert program titled “Magic of the Violin”, in which she leads audiences through an audio-visual journey across a range of musical periods and is accompanied by vocal artists, a large orchestra and video projections.

Between concert engagements, Ms. Baich holds master classes worldwide and teaches at the Vienna University of Music and Arts. Strongly committed to the promotion of young musical talents, she further serves on the jury of violin competitions such as the prestigious Menuhin Competition and the Eurovision Young Musicians. Since 2014 she has been Professor at the Music and Arts University Vienna. She also enjoys performing special concerts for children.

In June 2017, Lidia Baich took part in Elena Bashkirova’s prestigious Jerusalem International Chamber Music Festival, one of the most significant cultural events in Israel bringing together exceptional musicians from around the world. In November 2017 she was cheered at the National Theater in Prague for her performance of Alban Berg’s Violin Concerto with the State Opera Orchestra in the Karlín Forum.

Her most recent activities include concerts in Europe, the Middle and Far East as well as the release of their third CD with violin sonatas by Richard Strauss and Joseph Marx. In June 2018, Lidia Baich will perform at the LIFE + Celebration Concert at the Vienna Burgtheater.
